Wouldn't an adjustable gas block fix a lot of problems?
Venting gas through the forward assist, gas deflecting charging handles and heavy buffers only address the symptoms of the problem and not the source of the problem which is overgassing. None of those options are going to reduce the excess fouling coming into the action coming from the gas tube and then into your face.
Using the optimal amount of gas to cycle your gun means less fouling into the action while suppressed and when it does get too fouled to run, you then have the OPTION to go up in gas settings to run even longer before cleaning.
Below is highspeed video shot at 480 FPS showing the same 10.5" upper
running suppressed with M855 and full auto 10 rounds each. Top one is
unregulated and the bottom one is regulated.
Both start shooting at the same time but the regulated one has 3 rounds
left to fire after the unregulated has cycled through the 10 rounds.
You can see the unregulated one is blowing a bunch of gas out of the
ejection port and it also has more recoil as the BCG is bottoming out.
You don't see any gas coming out of the ejection port on the regulated one and it is softer shooting.
Video below you can see the gas coming from the ejection port when suppressed with full gas then the lack of the gas coming from the ejection port when regulated.

Or dare I say a piston system?
Even with a 'front end' 'piston' system it is still dirty since a lot of gas does come from chamber/bore. This is discussed by the late Noveske here:
